Malleus Maleficarum
(EN) The Malleus Maleficarum, also called the Witches Hammer, was a "guide" for hunting witches, launched in Strasbourg in 1486. It was one of the pillar of Inquisition, mixing believes, sexism ( of course, only women are witches and evil ), legal text and torture guide. There was more than 30 reeditions of the book. It existed an english version: the Saduscimus Triumphatus, which was used during the Salem trial.
There have been between 100 000 and 200 000 trials in Europe, mostly on denouncement, phobia, or lure of profit ( sometimes the three together). The last woman condemned for witchery in Europe was Anna Göldin, i've down a tribute to her HERE. It was in 1782.
